"It's easy to forget about finding a job until a few months before you graduate, but don't fool yourself. Now is the time to start preparing yourself. Naturally, some liberal arts majors haven't decided on a career, or even a general field. If you haven't decided and aren't comfortable with your lack of direction, go out and get experience in different fields to see what you would like. If you have, you need to begin preparing yourself for success.
If you're interested in going into business, for example, work for a firm, take some accounting and management classes. Get involved in student government and community service to sharpen leadership skills.
The same can be applied to writing, advertising, teaching, social service, publishing, or any other field you may want to enter. If you're interested in writing, work for the school paper or intern at a city newspaper. You can prepare for a teaching job through literacy programs and summer camps.
There are several ways to improve the odds of getting the job you want:
1. Get involved in the career
development process early.
2. Get work experiences.
3. Investigate career opportunities.
4. Identify skills and relate
them to the world of work.
5. Set career and personal
goals.
6. Develop job search and
self-marketing skills.
7. Develop realistic expectations.
Whatever your interest, if you prepare yourself and conduct an effective job search, you'll find yourself at the right place at the right time."
